About
The blogger
Hi! I'm Bee (she/her), a twenty-something Episcopalian.
I'm an American graduate student in classics, focusing on Latin literature of the early Roman empire. I like reading, coding, and watching/thinking about/arguing over Star Trek.
The blog
This site is built with Bumblebee, a simple-ish blogging framework I made for use on my personal site.
The favicon/background image is based off this picture of azulejos from R. dos Douradores, Lisboa, Portugal. Azulejos are colorful painted ceramic tiles from the Iberian Peninsula.
Fiat Mihi is from the Vulgate, from Mary's response to the angel at the Annunciation:
dixit autem Maria ecce ancilla Domini fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum
However, Mary said, "Behold the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be for me according to your word."
— Luke 1:38 (translation mine)
I first heard this quote in high school Latin, when we were learning the subjunctive mood, and it's stuck with me ever since.
